Ah, TB12. So much potential! There's good content here around inspiration, mobility, fitness, hydration, and nutrition. The book contains wonderful exercises for building mobility and strength. I haven't yet tried any recipes but they appear to be both tasty and healthy. Unfortunately the book also reads like a long sales brochure for the TB12 brand.

The sales-ey-ness of this book disappointed me. It felt like every other page he was plugging some other TB12 product or service, and none of it is cheap. There is also a frustrating lack of references to studies or cases other than Tom to show efficacy. That said, I won't throw the baby out with the bathwater here. There are good mobility and functional strength exercises as well as nutrition advice. Before this book, I recommend The Happy Body, by Aniela & Jerzy Gregorek.
Key Takeaways
- Pliability is the ability for your muscles to be long and strong through the full range of motion.
- Pliability is key to avoiding injury and having functional strength in all situations.
- Training with rubber bands is a great way to build functional strength.
- Good hydration is key to building pliable muscles. To calculate how much water to drink, take your body weight in pounds and divide by two. That is how many ounces of water you should drink every day at the least. So if you weight 200 pounds, you should drink at least 100 ounces of water every day.
- Coffee and alcohol both dehydrate you, so you should intake twice the volume in water that you do in those.
Memorable Quotes
- When things don’t go your way—or, rather, what you don’t think of as your way—there can be a variety of opportunities that may not be obvious in the moment but that through hard work, preparation, and persistence can present themselves over time and make you better.
- Wisdom, someone said, is about knowing the difference between the things you can control and the things you can’t.
